AMARETTO CHAI TEA – A NAUGHTY TWIST ON THE CLASSIC

Oh well, I think we can all agree that summer is over here in the UK for the year 2020. Dark clouds and rain are replacing the clear blue skies and warm sun rays.

But hey, autumn is on its way! And that means hot teas, hot chocolates, cuddling up under warm blankets to read a good book and eating plenty of comfort food like apple pies. At least that is what I am looking forward to.

For me, this also means swapping my fruity teas that are my go to beverage in the summer for more full body teas that are enhanced with loads of spices.

I came across a recipe for Chai Tea with Amaretto that I adapted a little to my liking and want to share with you today. As you know from my post Easy And No Fuzz Amaretto Sour, I absolutely adore this sweet almond liquor.

It is time to enhance my hot beverage of choice with some sweetness and more flavour!

Ingredients (makes 2 servings):

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 600 Ml Water
  • 4 Tbsp Amaretto
  • 2 Black Tea Tea Bags
  • 2 Cardamom Pods
  • 1/8 Tsp Cinnamon or a Cinnamon Stick
  • 4 Tbsp Milk (Double Cream is better though)

Preparation:

First, open the cardamom pods to get the little seeds. I normally do this in a pestle and mortar. Bash them a few times and the pods will split open. Make a small opening in one of the tea bags and add the cardamom seeds to the tea.

Next, add the ground cinnamon to the open tea bag as well and roll the tea bag up so the tea and spices do not come out easily. Put the tea bags into a tea strainer and place into a saucepan.

Add the sugar, water and Amaretto to the saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. This may take a few minutes.

Once the liquid has boiled, remove the saucepan from the heat and remove the tea strainer. Pour the liquid into two mugs and add 2 tbsp of milk to each mug. If you have double cream at home, go for the cream. It makes this hot beverage even more indulgent and creamy.

Drink straight away while it is hot.

Enjoy!
