BLOGANUARY DAY6 – SOMEONE THAT INSPIRED ME TO TRAVEL AND WHY

It’s Bloganuray day 6 and I haven’t given up yet, I’m so proud of myself if I may say so. The blogging prompt for today is:

Who is someone that inspires you (to travel) and why?

Well, to be honest I actually can’t remember the name of the person as it was an elderly customer from years ago when I worked for Silversea Cruises. I worked in reservations back then and this elderly man called to make arrangements for some special assistance for his wife.

He said she was bound to a wheelchair and couldn’t walk at all as she was paralysed from the waist down. Both were over 70 years old. He needed to make sure to get on the aircraft before everyone else to get her seated and also to make sure they would get a hotel room with a bed that is a bit high and some other arrangements.

They had a sort of machine that can help his wife to be moved from her wheelchair into any seat as well as the bed. I was really touched by this customer’s story.

Although they have to make all these arrangements, are more restricted in what they can do, see and who to travel with, they still travel. How amazing is that?

I thought this is incredible and so inspirational. They were elderly people and his wife had all these medical conditions, but they still travelled and enjoyed life. They still wanted to experience things and make new memories.

So many of us, well I look at my family at least, stopped travelling abroad in their 60s. Always finding excuses why not to travel, but at the same time wanting to travel. I offered my grandma to join me on a free all inclusive luxury cruise around Europe for god’s sake and she said no!

I hope to be able to travel like this customer and his wife do when I reach 70+ even when I have some little aches and pains. I will remember his story for the rest of my life for sure as it was truly inspirational and makes me want to travel even more until old age, until I really can’t anymore.
