Hi all,
I came across today’s quote and it really made me think. A deep quote that is very fitting especially during Covid-19 time.
The destination matters, but the way we think about the destination, the journey and all the things that come along with that matters maybe even more than the destination itself as the quote implies.
We all want to have our summer holiday, we want to get away from everything and we want to see something new, exciting and maybe exotic. What ever that means to you.
“The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to.”
– Alain de Botton
But many of us cannot and/or do not want to travel far away or abroad, but still want to get that holiday feeling.
And this is where the mindset comes in, at least for me.
Even opting for a staycation or staying at home entirely can give you that holiday feeling. We can replicate some of the activities we normally do on holiday as well as the environment.
If you normally play mini golf on a cruise ship, go and play that at home or find a local club that offers it. You enjoy laying on your beach towel reading a book? Grab your towel and sit in your garden to read or in the park and not in a chair. Get some plants to make your space feel more exotic and so on.
You want to be at the beach, but are stuck in the countryside? It does not matter. Be grateful for what you have and make the most of it. Enjoy the fresh air, notice the crops, trees and grasses in bloom, go for a rejuvenating walk, read a book, play some Frisbee and make yourself a cocktail.
What ever it takes, the right mindset can turn a less desirable destination, location or trip into something amazing, if we have the right mindset.
Happy Thursday!
