TRAVEL THURSDAY QUOTE – STAY AT HOME IF …

Hi guys,

When we travel, we need to be respectful, open minded and aware that we are going to experience a different country and culture.

Hence, things are going to be different from what we are used to.

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.”

– James Michener

Try out new things, be adventurous and come out of your comfort zone.

Otherwise, what is the point of going in the first place?

Happy Thursday!

  1. I totally agree!!! I used to be so scared of things I didn’t understand and did not like to try new things. Then I became great friends with someone from India and found myself immensely curious about her culture. Differences between her home and mine in the US was so interesting to me. Their religion, families, food, fashion, language and so much more. She really helped open my eyes about the world and how unaware I was, in a good way. In the past couple of years, I have learned so much about her culture. I’ve enjoyed their food, her less spicy version because I don’t do well with heated food. I’ve attended a Dewali celebration, wearing a beautiful saree one year and a lehenga another year. On a trip back home she brought me back a beautiful bright red ornately designed kurta. When traveling, it’s so easy to get lost in the “vacation” aspect of it. This is a great reminder to really immerse yourself in other cultures;experience it and understand it! Great post!!!

    1. This is a great story. I enjoyed reading about your experience with Indian culture. I can imagine that there is a huge difference between the US and India, but it is great to be able to have those experiences and share them with each other. We get rewarded for opening up and by the sounds of it you managed to find a good friend in the end. And that is even more rewarding to be able to share moments together, in my opinion.

  2. Anna,
I agree 100%. I love seeking out new adventures in life, but to get the full experience, you must also absorb the culture! Try the foods, learn the language, and see what their religions are all about. It doesn’t mean that you have to adopt these ways permanently, but instead, you are gaining new life experiences and finding adventure!
